I felt defeated before I even started but I knew I had to find a way to keep going or i'd never get back into shape or lose the weight I wanted.
After resting per doctors orders for three weeks, I started going to a PT. The first thing I asked was what can I do to stay active but not prolong my injury. He told me I could ride the bike and so I did.
I knew at that point I needed new goals because otherwise I would end up back at my original weight. One thing I have never been is an athlete.
I grew up doing dance and gymnastics within my community but always loathed sports. When I was a kid, I remember running through a parking lot to the car and someone told me that I ran like Danny Devito. I hated running from that moment on. So I knew this was what I needed to keep my weight off.
I was going to overcome a fear of running to keep my weight stable. I am normally nervous around new people but I felt like I knew them forever because they were such a friendly, warm and loving group. I left that group run knowing I made the right choice not only by honoring my family My step dad Shon who was a Vietnam Navy officer who is taking care of my mother who is battling cancer but also being in the group will build myself confidence, strength and get me involved in the running community.
Since that first training run my team mates have become a family to me. I have never felt so loved and supported by people whom I have known for under a years time.
